Best DSLR Cameras Under $600

As the prices for DSLR cameras continue to drop, more people are curious about them and whether they’re worth purchasing. For those not in the know, DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. A DSLR camera brings together digital camera technology and the single-lens reflex view design that lets the photographer view what the lens sees, even though the eyepiece is off-center.

DSLR cameras are superior to the traditional digital camera in terms of responsiveness and speed. They also have a wide selection of lenses available for different types of photography, and are better able to capture photos in less than ideal lighting conditions.

Simply put: a DSLR combines the best of digital and conventional cameras

Here’s a good selection of DSLR cameras under $600. If you like taking pictures with digital cameras and don’t like missing those once in a lifetime shots, you may want to seriously consider one of these fine models.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i

This beauty features 18 megapixel resolution, full high-def video mode, digital zoom, and image editing. The Rebel T3i comes in around $550. This is your classic DSLR choice, featuring ease of use and lightweight construction.

Nikon D3100

Another lightweight DSLR camera that is targeted at beginners, it boasts six automatic exposure scene modes, full 1080p HD movie recording, and a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR Image Stabilization lens. The 3-inch LCD monitor is ideal for simple editing of any video you shoot, including extracting stills or trimming scenes. You can get this one for $425.

Nikon D5200

Like the previous cameras, this model offers excellent photo and video quality. This Nikon is touted as a good model to take on family vacations, no doubt because of its solid build and ability to snag endearing candid shots of even the most hyperactive kids. Overall, this camera is a solid journeyman’s effort, nothing glitzy or too powerful. The D5200 has a price tag in the $580 range, if you shop around.

Pentax K-50

This model offers only so-so photo quality, but makes up for it with rapid speed continuous shooting and a weather-sealed body, which is a plus for outdoor photography. Its 16.3 megapixel resolution is sufficient for the casual photographer, but it’s no world-beater. It comes close to hitting the $600 limit, and to be fair, there are other cameras out there that are cheaper and offer better resolution. But if the weather-sealing is an irresistible value add, then go for it.

Sony a5000 Mirrorless Camera

Okay, we conclude with a really different DSLR entry. This camera features a 16-50mm lens, full HD 1080/60i/24p video, and an effective picture resolution of 20.1MP. But what really sets this camera apart is its Wi-Fi connectivity to smart phones via NFC. That’s right; no cables needed. The a5000 also touts a lightweight construction and more compact size, making it a better portable experience. You can get this awesome camera for just $450.

And if the above-listed models aren’t enough, here are some more cameras for your consideration. The choices are vast, but if until now you’ve only dealt with standard digital cameras, then go with one of the beginner DSLR models and work your way up.
