iPhone 8 and the Inductive Charging Feature

iPhone 8 is coming with amazing features, advanced technology, and attractive look. The look of iPhone 8 is very popular among the Apple lovers, and they are waiting for new iPhone 8. But one exciting feature which is expecting in iPhone 8 is missing that is ‘truly wireless charging.’

It is expected that iPhone 8 will use wireless technology for charging, and it can be charge when sat within 15 feet from a charger. Steve Rizzone, CEO of wireless power company Energous claims about the wireless technology idea because his company is working on such technology. Rizzzone stated that his company has made an agreement with “one of the largest consumers electronic companies in the world” and hinted that it is Apple. But there are a lot of things which are indicating that Apple is not using RF charging in iPhone 8.

iPhone 8 coming soon...

Apple Using Inductive Charging

Since 2013, Apple has filed a lot of patents for inductive charging, it is said by Copperfield. Just like the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA) used by Samsung’s Galaxy S and Galaxy Note ranges, these technologies use magnetic coils and require contact with the charger. On the other hand, WattUp by Energous uses radio frequencies as wireless charging standard, which will also boost  other usage for content transfer app and more.

Partnership with Lite-On Semiconductor

Apple makes a recent collaboration with Lite-On Semiconductor for wireless charging bridge rectifiers, according to Copperfield. This partnership reveals the interest of the company in inductive charging. Bridge rectifiers are working to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). This is the primary component for inductive charging. But it is expected that Apple is pursuing RF charging and Energous has its own all-in-one module, which is already containing a bridge.

Apple iPhone 8 coming soon

Incredible All Glass Look

In past years Apple has focussed on introducing best and advanced smartphones with incredible glass look and more. But the most amazing and incredible thing that will be seen is iPhone 8 is all glass body. Apple is replacing the aluminium chassis with all glass for the new iPhone 8. It ‘s hard to handle the glass body, but necessary for induction charging, because the induction charging cannot pass through aluminium.

But if the Apple is going for using RF charging, this move is useless because it can pass through aluminium and glass both, without any difficulty. It seems that in iPhone 8, Apple is using inductive charging instead of RF charging.

Conclusion

It is concluded by Copperfield that may be with Energous Apple did have a partnership, and they are doing research for RF charging . But by the every action taken from Apple, it is depicted that in iPhone 8 there is no chance of using RF charging.

It doesn’t mean that Apple is not looking and researching for RF charging, it is expected that this technology will be seen in future iPhones. But in iPhone 8 is not possible and in spite of all other the features, brilliant look and advanced technologies, the iPhone 8 is coming with inductive charging, instead of RF charging.
