This interesting modular project is an Open Source emulator for classic consoles like Sega’s Master System, Nintendo’s Virtual Boy and other consoles. The software emulates classic computer consoles to provide an environment to run all those classics in gaming history. Also to study the evolution of 30 years of technology in computer games, this emulator promises to support the vast majority of nostalgic computer consoles. Nintendo Gameboy, Super NES and Sega classics brought to you back to life by Openemu 1.0 software emulation app.

The Openemu gaming console emulator project is ready to use for Mac OS X exclusively at the moment. Included are several modular Open Source projects by community members from different development teams. Based on individual cores running in together in a clustered system, single cores can be activated and deactivated. The project history involved community feedback and experimental developments from other Open Source projects. One of the current project is Nintendo 64 console as well as Nintendo DS as a gaming handheld console.

Good news for Nintendo gaming fans as nearly all consoles of the Japanese mother company Nintendo which was so popular for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super NES later, before the whole Nintendo 64 and 3D graphics started to flood the gaming consoles.

Openemu Supports Neo Geo Pocket and PC Engine

For worldwide users in U.S. and Europe, the emulator software also provides NEC’s Turbografx 16 and SNK’s Neo Geo Pocket which never made its way out of Japan that time back in gaming history.

Emulator Configuration

While testing the version 1.0 of Openemu, the configuration is really simple. Users select the available console hardware and start games via drag and drop into the emulator app. All graphical configuration and monitor adjustments for RGB color schemes are automatically set by the Openemu emulator software.

The emulator project has been release in Version 1.0 and we hope it will be available also to Windows users soon. Expects further community features and development improvements for this project as it evolves to a great software app for emulating classic gaming consoles on Mac (and Windows soon).

Openemu is available on the project homepage openemu.org and can be downloaded together with 15 homebrew games for different console types.

This is just an issue for me but.
Chrono trigger is five here and on the best games of all time. Which is fine, I find this channel to have this most reasonable top tens I’ve ever seen. But there’s one problem. It’s inconsistent. The entrees on their top five for this list are
    5 Chrono
    4 Donkey kong country
    3 Mario kart
    2 Mario world
1 And a link to the past
And on their top ten of all time it’s
    5. Chrono trigger
    4. Super Mario world
    3. Half life 2
    2. Tetris
    1. Ocarina of time
Obviously ocarina of time replaces link to the past in this situation, considering the one per franchise rule, but I find it very strange that the only snes titles set for top ten of all time are 2 (super Mario world) and five (Chrono trigger) on this list. Why isn’t Chrono trigger Mario kart? It’s inconsistent. The only reasonable explanation I can come to is that Donkey kong country and Mario kart are bunched into the Mario franchise, making this list break the one per franchise rule.

I haven’t tried all of the Emulators on this list, but I have tried Bluestacks, Andy, Nox and Remix OS, Bluestacks and Andy are complete shit, Remix OS is really good, its not really a “emulator” so to speak, as it actually partitions HDD space and makes a bootable Android OS on your HDD, my only issue with it is its difficult to get good solid controller emulation on it, Nox (From my experience) is the boos of the emulators I’ve used, I have had 0 issues with it and its not a bloated POS like Bluestacks and doesn’t constantly try to suck money out of you, my recommendation is to give Remix OS a shot (If you can deal with the hassle of trying to get a controller to work) and Nox, stay away from Bluestacks and Andy (Not sure about the others on the list), best of all, Nox comes pre-rooted, Bluestacks tries to keep people from rooting it so you can’t get rid of their ridiculous ads and constant money phishing.

Square got to final fintasy 6 on the SNES. That is 6 games from 1987 to 1994 while Valve still cant get a nother sequel in 14 years. Japanese developers knows what fans want even if they make failures like 13 they are quick to bring it back. Meanwhile at bethesda. “”Let’s drop another Skyrim and not remake arena or Daggerfall. btw what about paying for mods now? We are to lazy to make our own stuff

That’s a good list, though some of the choices puzzle me. I found DKC 2 and DKC 3 were both more fun to play than the original. I did expect FFVI to be in the top 5, that seems kind of weird. My personal favorite game of all time is Chrono Trigger, so I would have loved to see that at number 1. But with most people I’ve talked to that played a lot of snes games, they tend to rank Zelda and Chrono Trigger 1 and 2, so I’m surprised that it is so far down on this list.

Cool list. Before you started I thought to myself Link to the Past would be at the top of my personal list, but wasn’t sure if others would agree. When you got to number 5 and I still hadn’t seen Link, I was sure it had to be number one. When you said Blackthorne I was like WHAAAT!!???? lol Despite your telling us in the intro that it hadn’t made the list. Made me laugh out loud. Loved the vid. Thought the choices were great, the commentary was funny and the attention given to each game was just the right length. Awesome job!
Some of my favs that didn’t make the list :
    – Super Punch-Out
    – Super Double Dragon
    – Breath of Fire
    – NBA Jam
    – The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse

What I don’t get is why Nintendo didn’t get together with Rare to do a 32 meg, ACM graphics Mario Kart sequel on the SNES possibly using the Super FX 2 chip for a boost or even companies like Konami teaming up with Nintendo & Rare to do a 32 meg, ACM Castlevania and/or Contra game just to see what they could’ve accomplished together. They could’ve made those games as big as the Donkey Kong Country series. Super Return of the Jedi should’ve been much bigger & better than it was. They were so lazy they didn’t even change the way (1 handed) Darth Vader fought you from Empire to Jedi & it was a cakewalk to beat him. A few missed opportunities there.

Vortex? Doom? Castlevania Dracula? SSF2? Barman returns? Syndicate? Saturday night slam masters? Also European/ japanese exclusives like terranigma. Cannon fodder. Sensible soccer. final fight 3….? And castlevania 4/harvest moon and donkey Kong country should not be down in the sub top 20… C’mon dude. Sacrifice one of ur beloved rpg’ s or Tetris… only chrono trig/Mario rpg/earthbound and of course zelda need to be in top 40 or so… (I hate final fantasy).

Final Fantasy 6 was the first game that ever made me feel an emotion. People give credit to 7 for that due to one major death, but the truth is 6 was a pre-apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic game. You honestly felt bad for the world seeing what it became after the villain effectively won the game. The character cast was one of the best in a video game ever. The large main cast all got personal stories even if you had to hunt for some. Some had lost loves, murdered families and one even tries to commit suicide. Some had positive stories like adopting orphans or brotherly bonds. This is the first real feels in a game.
