Samsung launches Galaxy S4 Mini Smartphone: An Overview

Samsung wants to keep its consumers happy by giving them the power of choice by offering several devices differentiated on the basis of smartphone size, their specifications and even price. After launching its Flagship high-end smartphones Galaxy S4, there were multiple rumors about its smaller and compact version. And, today those rumors were put an end by Samsung as it launched Galaxy S4 Mini. Let’s see what this device packs in.

Review Samsung Galaxy S4

Outside- Design and display

The device looks exactly similar to Galaxy S4 and other Samsung smartphones with its plastic body. Available in Black Mist and White Frost colors, it has standard layout of screen, two capacitive buttons for Options and Back with Physical Home button sandwiched in between at the front. The front also has a secondary camera and proximity sensor at the top. The back of the device have a removable battery cover and sports a rear camera and speaker grille. The volume rocker is at the left, while the power key is at the right side. 3.5 mm headphone jack is at the top and microUSB charging port is at the bottom of the device.

The screen is 4.3 inches AMOLED sporting a qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels). It’s a tad smaller than 5 inches screen of Galaxy S4 making it more handy and pocketable with a weight of 108 g. Users can customize and change the look and feel with free HD Galaxy S4 wallpapers.

Inside- Processor and Storage

S4 Mini is powered by 1.7 GHz dual-core processor accompanies by 1.5 GB RAM. In terms of memory, it has in-built storage of 8 GB, which is expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card. The device will be out in two variants- single SIM and dual SIM, and depending upon market Samsung will launch 3G and 4G LTE options. For connectivity, it has usual options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IR Blaster (for controlling TV as a remote) and GPS. It has a battery capacity of 1900 mAh making it last a day of a nominal usage.

Imaging- Camera capability

The smartphone will have an 8 MP rear camera and 1.9 MP front-facing camera. The rear camera comes with LED flash and auto focus, and supports numerous standard features such as geo-tagging, touch to focus, smile and face detection, etc. Samsung has also added lots of innovative software enhancements for making the image and video capturing better like Sound and Shot, Dual Shot, Panorama Shot, Story Album and many more.

Software and Add-ons

It will be running on latest version of Android 4.2.1 (JellyBean) with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz customization. Samsung has included many of the software features which were introduced with Galaxy S4- Group Play, WatchON, S Translator, S Health, etc.

Conclusion

Galaxy S4 Mini is targeted towards the consumers who are looking for the powerful hardware, but a smaller size device in comparison to large Galaxy S4. If priced right, the device will find many takers and will have a success similar to its brother Galaxy S4 which sold 10 million units within a month.
