What’s New in Android 5.1 (Lollipop)

Google has recently rolled out its latest update to its Android operating system – Android 5.1 (Lollipop), with a selection of new and improved features that are designed to make our interaction with our devices easier. The new features offered by the new release include support for multiple SIM cards, HD voice support and easier to dismiss notifications. Let’s take a brief look on them below.

Android 5.1 Lollipop

The new version of the Android Lollipop operating system now supports multiple SIM cards natively. Dual-SIM phones are maybe not the most popular in the US, but in emerging markets (especially in Asia) most affordable models come with more than one SIM slot under their hood. Multiple SIM cards are used for a variety of reasons – users with multiple contracts, separate subscriptions for personal and business use, or when traveling abroad (users can use their own SIM and a local card in parallel in their phones). Android 5.1 now allows users to choose their preferred SIM in the dialer, which is also color coded to show users which SIM they are currently using.

Device Protection adds another layer of security to Android devices. Whenever a phone or tablet is lost or stolen, it will remain locked until the user signs in to it with a Google account. The feature will remain active even if the phone is reset to factory setting, making it useless in the hands of the finders / thieves. The new version of the OS also adds support for HD voice calls for a crystal clear quality. The only device Google has mentioned as supporting this new feature is the Nexus 6 (although I’m sure many more handsets have this feature hidden inside them) and only two carriers, T-Mobile and Verizon (although I know of several European carriers with HD Voice support).

One of the smaller, but handy updates in Android 5.1 is the new possibility to quickly dismiss notifications – but only temporarily, for dealing with them later. Whenever a Lollipop phone gets a new notification, it appears on the top of the screen in a least distractive way – users can continue to read, navigate, play or Visit slots.redflushcasino.com for the latest online casino slots uninterrupted. Until this update, though, they had to either dismiss the notifications, or wait for them to go away by themselves – but now they can quickly send them into the background with a quick swipe up and continue with whatever they were doing at the time.

Google has rolled out the new version of the operating system at a moment when many Android users are still waiting for 5.0 to be released by their handsets’ manufacturers. Hopefully the new version of the OS will find its way to our phones sooner rather than later.

The device protection looks good. I just realize that the features like that are really important since i’m losing 2 of my tablets few weeks ago
