Advantages of Broadband Over LAN

In this current world, the two major ways by which people connect to the internet is mostly via LAN which is “local area networking” and Broadband. One major thing that people do not really know is that as far as these connections are concerned, they are better than each other. But most people do not know which is better than the other. So far, these two types of connection have been doing the competition as to which of them is the king when it comes to connecting to the internet. So as to ease that problem, that is the major reason am explaining this major advantage of broadband over LAN.

Broadband is wireless while LAN is Always Wired

One thing that broadband has as an advantage over LAN is the wireless ability. This is one major factor that allows it to be used from different part of the country. The Broadband connection is usually a USB like modem that is capable of picking up signal from anywhere. But as far as LAN is concerned, it is usually used in a place where two to three computers are connected together so that they can share internet connection. The wire serves as the connecting means which gives all the system the avenue of been connected together. Broadband therefore can be carried from one place to another because of this while LAN can only remain within the distance where the wire can get to.

Broadband is Portable While LAN is Not

Another thing is that as far as broadband connection is concerned, it is a portable modem which makes it possible for it to be carried from one place to another without the problem of carrying heavy load with you.  Meanwhile, the presence of wire (when LAN is concerned) usually restrict the movement of system within that connection to the length of the wire.

Broadband is Always Faster than LAN

In most cases, the broadband connection is usually faster than the LAN. The reason for this is that technology that is evolving in this current century are mostly based on increasing the ability of broadband connection so that it can surf the internet faster and better. This includes the discovery of the 3G, 3.5G, and 4G connections respectively. When it comes to LAN, the speed at which it surfs the internet is mostly based on the distance between ISP provider and the user. This in most case is usually a very long distance which can be affected by weather conditions and other factors but when it comes to its speed, it can sometimes be trusted but not always.

Broadband Can be Used Anywhere while LAN cannot

Due to the portability of the broadband modem, it makes it possible for the modem to be used anywhere in the world (as long as it is unlocked). All that will be needed after this is the sim card of the network you wish to make use. But when it comes to LAN connection, it cannot be carried from one place to the other because of the presence of the wire that connects the system to that particular network. Once you are out of the place where you want to make use of the LAN connection that also signifies the end of it unless you go to another place.

Finally, another thing that makes broadband better than LAN is that broadband can be used on a single system and it can also be shared (which gives the avenue for increase in numbers of users) while LAN connection can only be used between at least two systems.
