Assessing Asus S400 Powered by Windows 8

The Asus s400 is here at last, powered by Windows 8. Details are available for this Ultrabook that has a dual-screen with a touch-screen added. You can use the laptop as a tablet when it is closed as the top of the cover has a touch-screen. Once you open up the device, it is a regular laptop. It is ingenious on the part of the manufacturers to give a two-in –on at the price of one. What’s more, you can drive the displays independently through the graphics driver just as you would plug in on a laptop.Review Asus S400 with Microsoft Windows 8

Asus S400 Features

ASUS S400 Display

The device has a stunning display of 14.1 inches that has a sleek finish with a glittering black bezel. The vivid resolution for the screen which is bright and crisp at 1366 X 768 pixels is one the best in its class. The touchscreen responds instantly thus making every operation slick and smooth. There is one drawback with chiclet style keyboard if you could call it that; it is that it is not backlit. The space bar issues that one encountered in the earlier models seem to have been rectified and the keys are pretty easy to operate. The pinch and zoom multi touch gestures are supported with the keyboard having the touchpad and keys in one piece. The keys are raised to make typing effortless. The buttons are feather-touch and a gentle hint of a touch is all that is required.

ASUS S400 Processor

The processor is meant for multi-tasking as it has an Intel Core i5 3317U 1.7 Giga Hertz that lets you have many windows open to enable you to do many things at the same time without slowing down the device. This is further enhanced by the 4 Giga Byte random access memory which is more than adequate. Storage of your important files whether they are in text format or audio and video files should not pose any problem with the ample storage space of 500 Giga Bytes.

ASUS S400 Graphics

You can enjoy animation movies and if you are an avid gamer you won’t need a separate graphic card as you have an additional Intel  GMA high definition graphics processor that should take care of your needs. This wireless enabled device (802.11 bgn) has 2 USB ports that let you connect other devices like a pen drive, MP3, keyboard, and mouse. You also have a memory card reader and a jack for your headphone and a microphone. You also get a HDMI port along with a VGA and an Ethernet jack. Tipping the scales at 4.4 pounds or about 2 kg, it is easy to carry around while you are on the go. This handy device on PC hardware platform has a lithium ion battery that can last for a good 4 hours before it needs to be recharged.

Overall

The overall reaction to this new entrant has been encouraging as the performance is believed to be brisk due to the advanced dual core i5 processor. You don’t have to wait too long for it to boot. You may not need anti-virus software as you get Defender along with Windows 8 that will keep all the spyware and spam at bay.
