Getting the Best out of your HDTV Experience

HDTV is the future of the home entertainment experience. Even families that don’t have the technology yet soon will as the price of HDTV screens comes down and internet and digital TV packages (like DirecTV deals that offer multiple packages at great prices) get cheaper. As with any reasonably new technology, HDTV is going through that transitional phase between being hopelessly expensive and not really as good as you thought it would be, to being exceptional value for money and a great source of home entertainment.

The television industry itself is a competitive place, where each company is always desperate to undercut the other – hence the at least 50% drop in the average price of a new HDTV over the last year. Mine, which cost well over a thousand pounds, is now in the shops as a newer, slimmer model for less than six hundred.

HDTV itself has to step up to the plate if its providers are to enjoy the demand that will be unleashed when everyone has a HDTV in their home. See, it’s not enough just to have the television – you have to receive a HD signal otherwise you won’t notice a difference. Look at the TV you get in Comcast deals as an example. It is only HD if you ask for it – and pay the price associated. Because it’s Comcast it’s still cheaper than most, but the HD package is obviously more expensive and less agile (you can only store 15 hours of HD on Comcast’s digital recorder, whereas you get 80 hours of normal viewing) than a standard one.

So how can you be sure you are getting the most from your own HDTV experience? Knowing what your service provider can do for you is a good place to start. Given that changing to a different HDTV provider can be expensive, laborious and frankly annoying, the best advice I can give you right now is to pick a company that provides a lot of HDTV programming already. That way you’ll get the most out of what you have now, and you’ll be in a great position to enjoy the largest number of new channels as they start to come out.

Be aware that different companies provide different channels in HD. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know. You’d think they would do them all, but I guess it’s a case of bandwidth plus investment cost that holds them back. So – find out who does HD already for the channels that you really like, and go with them. Otherwise you could be waiting for ages before your favourite programming comes to you in the high definition you want.

Comcast deals supply extraordinary feed quality thanks to the enlarged speed and stability of their signal. If you have a screen as big as ours you might want to think carefully about the speed and strength of the signal you will be receiving before you make a final decision. The larger your screen the more readily you will notice the deterioration in quality that comes with a substandard feed quality.

HDTV provides an incredible viewing experience when you get the right feed. Pick wisely and enjoy your favourite programmes in a whole new light.
