Next Total War Available for Free in Epic Games Store

It’s getting crazier! Total War Saga: Troy should be available for free, not only after years, but on the first day of availability.

The strategy game Total War Saga: Troy was announced in September 2019 without any abnormalities for a release on Windows PC sometime in 2020. Now there is a special feature: The game from Creative Assembly is available for 24 hours free of charge in the Epic Games Store on the day of its release – currently planned is August 13, 2020.

Players can transfer it permanently to their library during this time. After the 24 hours, the normal purchase price is due, which will probably be around 40 euros. Troy will then be available exclusively in the Epic Games Store for a year, after which it should be available in other online shops.

The developer studio Creative Assembly writes in the company blog that pre-orders were not yet possible on Steam. It also reads that the initiative came from Epic Games.

The developers would then have decided to participate – not only because of the obvious financial advantages, but also because they see it as an opportunity to make the 20-year-old series Total War more popular again.

Saga is a sub-series of Total War that focuses on somewhat shorter and more discreetly experimental content and campaigns than the very epic Total War (without the addition of Saga).

Troy is just the second saga – the first was Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, released in 2018. In Troy, players plunge into the Trojan War in the Bronze Age.

It is about heroes like Achilles and Hector and of course about defending the city of Troy or razing it to the ground. The soldiers of the armies fight with the typical Hoplon round shield and with a long spear.

The Greek phalanx formation is likely to be a central tactical element in the game, just like ship battles with Trier, Penteren and other sailing ships.
