Travelling is not always easy. If you have planned a trip, even a short getaway, you know that there are so many different questions to be answered and details to be defined that it can become almost overwhelming. Technology, though, has made this process more manageable and the planning less difficult, especially if you have an iPhone.
If you own this type of Smartphone, you know that iPhone and iPad applications are made for every genre and area of life. You may not have realized just how many are geared toward travel. There are hundreds of applications offered that get you up and running on the road and in the air and even on the sea. With so many different travel applications out there, how do you know what will work best? The following is a list of the top iPhone applications that will help you to get ready for your next travel adventure.
TripIt
Part of planning any trip is remembering everything that you need to do and not forgetting any crucial items. Anyone who has forgotten to order tickets or rent a car will assuredly relate to the hair-raising and frustrating feeling that creeps up when you realize that everything you need to have done is not accomplished. Organization is the answer to this problem but even the most intensely together people can find that making travel plans is not so easy. With the TripIt application this is all taken care of in one location. You can email your information regarding plane tickets, rentals, and even hotel confirmations and it is all placed in one location. TripIt will organize everything for you in an easy to understand and easily attained list and you will have one less thing to do! What more could you ask from an application?
GasBuddy
It doesn’t take an avid traveler long to figure out that gasoline is expensive! This expense is necessary no matter where you go on the road. Not only is gasoline costly, but the prices can vary from town to town and region to region. Knowing where you should go to get the best deal can be highly complicated and frustrating, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area or region. With the GasBuddy application, this ambiguity is eliminated. Using your phone’s built in GPS tracking system, GasBuddy will locate the closest gas stations to you no matter where you are. It also provides you with a list of the prices at each of these stations so that you can find the cheapest gas in any region.
AirBnB
Finding the perfect accommodations for your trip can be difficult, especially when you consider the budget you have to stay within. Sure, major chains will be easily accessible but what if you make an unexpected stop or simply cannot afford some of the more prominent lodging options in the area? This is where the AirBnB application will serve you well. This application is focused on highlighting and providing the best places to stay in any location. From private dwelling to large roomed hotels and motels, everything is listed in an easily accessible place. No matter where you go or where you want to stay, this application can find you the closest locations quickly and with price breakdowns as well. It is a must for the traveler who never knows when they might need to stop or where their destination will be!
Urbanspoon
You are out on the road with your family when hunger strikes. You have a gaggle of young children that are ready to fill their bellies or a spouse that is griping about needing a bite to eat. What do you do? Rather than panic, simply pull out your iPhone or iPad and use the Urbanspoon application. With the Urbanspoon, you will get a list of great food options no matter where you are. From local diners to chains with name recognition, this application will provide you with a list of some great food options that will keep your travel crew’s bellies full and you with your sanity intact.

Thanks for posting on these great travel apps, Jason. My job at DISH requires a lot of air travel, so I am always on the lookout for apps that might make life in the air a bit easier. AirBnB and UrbanSpoon are both new to me, and I will give them a shot on my next trip out of town. I would like to recommend an app that I never leave the house without, much less leave town. It’s called DISH Remote Access, and I can use it to connect to my Hopper DVR to stream live TV or DVR recordings over the internet to my phone. I never imagined how awesome the app could be until I got stuck on a weather delay; I put on a movie an barely noticed as time went by.
