An IP PBX is a telephony system that transmits signals and facilitates telephone calls over a secured IP network. The voice signals are converted into digital data packets and transmitted over the network.
The technology comes with a variety of advanced features and offers immense scalability as well as reliability to the organizations that use it. The traditional PSTN lines, in most cases can be completely discarded. This is the reason why upgrading to the latest IP PBX system is hassle free.
The latest IP PBX system can be easily integrated with the existing communication network without needing too many infrastructural changes. Even the regular numbers need not be changed after implementing the IP PBX system. Your ITSP can assign the same numbers to your VoIP network.
How it works
The IP Telephone and IP PBX System comprises of the single or multiple SIP phones, IP PBX server and an optional VOIP Gateway in order to connect to the data connection that already exist. The IP PBX server is similar to the proxy server when it comes to functionality. The SIP clients are registered with the IP PBX server and for making a call they send a request to the IP PBX server, which in turn establishes a connection. The IP PBX maintains a phone directory that has all the registered SIP address and it is able to establish an internal call or even route the external calls with the help of a VOIP service provider or gateway.
Benefits
Some of the benefits offered by the IP PBX system are as follows:
Easy to install and Configure
Installation and configuring an IP PBX system is really easy and anyone with little knowledge of computer networking can do it. Installation and usage software has a very user friendly GUI interface.
Easy to Manage
This system can be easily managed through a simple web browser based application that allows you to configure, set call rights, and even monitor all calls. Configuration can be done for an individual, a group of people or for a whole department.
Cost Saving
The latest VOIP service can be easily used by the IP PBX for making long distance as well as overseas calls. This can help the users make huge savings and all the branch offices can be connected to make phone calls literally free of cost.
Eliminate Phone Wiring
IP telephony works through your LAN, which in most cases will already be there. Every Ethernet socket in your LAN becomes capable of working as an extension to the IP PBX.
Eliminate Vendor Lock in
This system uses the SIP standard so the users have the liberty to use any software or hardware. You can use any digital phone or any IP phone that is compatible to IP phone system.
Scalable
IP PBXs come with predefined connectivity. For example, an IP PBX server may be specified as 200 users. At the same time, if you connect another server to the same network, you end up having an IP PBX that supports 400 users. It is that simple.
More Features
There are a variety of advanced features offered by the IP PBX system that can be used to enhance customer service and productivity. This is s a computer based system; hence a variety of advanced telephony features can be integrated as and when needed.
Roaming
Roaming can be done within the office and outside. For within the office, you can install a wireless system, and any device that works with the device is a potential end point. Applications such as Softphone from Toshiba convert your PC or laptop to an IP Phone by simulating its features.
Outside your office, you smart phone can be made an extension to your IP PBX.
