Most Popular Reading Apps for Android

One of the leisurely activities for me on my phone is to read books. I generally read a lot of non-fiction and I find it convenient to read them on phone since I can carry my book anywhere I want. But the experience of reading the eBooks on the phone depends to a great extent on apps used. The ebooks come in various formats like PDF, ePUB, etc.

Reading them in the default file reader applications for these respective file types make it difficult to have a book reading experience. For example you cannot flip through the pages or you cannot bookmark them. To address these issues, we look at various popular reading apps available on Android.

Aldiko

This is one of the most popular reading app out there. It has gone refreshingly smooth user interface with many customizable elements. You can change margin, alignment, color of the background etc. It also lets you bookmark the pages. This is a must have app for any book lover. It supports most common formats like pdf and epub. Also supports the ability to import the books to the reader’s library. It has got a premium version that is without advertisements.

Amazon Kindle

One of the problems with physical books is that you need to shell out extra money to buy them as compared to digital books. To solve this issue, install kindle. Almost all popular fiction and non-fiction books out there are available on kindle for purchase or free download. Kindle goes beyond this and allows you to download the books from other devices and PC and read them on your mobile devices. It has got some customizations like font size, background color, orientation etc. but it is not as great on UI as aldiko.

I didn’t know that even flipping effect and book-marking can be done using reading apps. For me, reading books on device was always uncomfortable but after getting to know about these applications, I think I should be using these apps.
I’d like to ask at this point, if any minimum hardware and platform configurations are required to use these apps or any Android’s version will do just fine?
