5 Tech Inspired Cosplay Ideas for Software

We live in a world inundated with technology: Why not embrace it? With these spunky and hilarious tech-inspired cosplay and costume ideas, you’ll be having people pull out their phones and tablets for photo uploads all night long.

Google Maps

Perhaps the most creative couple’s costume ever, dressing up as Google Maps, will be a hit amongst your friends and your partner. Not quite sure what dressing up as a map entails? Here’s how to make it happen:

  • Purchase matching grey t-shirts for you and your partner.
  • Decorate the t-shirts with strips of yellow tape (to represent streets) labeled with street names. Organize the strips to resemble streets and intersections.
  • Make two big, upside down teardrop-shaped cutouts that can fit around your head; one for your partner, one for you. These should be red, and symbolize a starting and ending destination. Mark one of the cutouts with an A and one of the cutouts with a B. Attach to your head and your good to go!

The Sims

Another easy couple’s costume—or an individual costume if you prefer—is to dress up as one of the Sims from the game The Sims.

  • Visit a clothing store (or your closet) and pick out some clothing that resembles something worn by one of the characters.
  • Construct a headband to which you can fasten of the Sims diamond-shaped character markers.
  • Create your character marker by cutting out a diamond-shaped piece of cardboard, or bending wire into a diamond shape.
  • Cover your shape with tinfoil and attach to your headband.

A Simple Hash Tag

Hash tags have become a hit on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and wearing a hash tag costume might just make you the hit of the party you’re planning to attend.

  • Choose an outfit.
  • Grab a piece of cardboard and cut it into a manageable size to make your hashtag.
  • Spray paint your cardboard white.
  • Write the words “#simple costume” or anything else equally clever.

Macintosh Operating System

This is a creative costume that requires a little bit more work than the previous two, but will be loved just as much. Macintosh has come out with quite a few operating systems in the past, and three of them just so happen to be the named of animals: Snow Leopard, Tiger, and Lion. Why not dress up as one of those operating systems?

  • Choose which animal you want to be. Purchase headband ears for that animal.
  • Put on an awesome outfit. Either a sexy dress or a full-on cat costume will do the trick.
  • Paint whiskers on your face.
  • Attach one of the Apple logo stickers (purchasable online or at the Apple store) onto your outfit. Meow!

The Cloud

The Cloud may just be the coolest piece of technology from this generation—a way to store all of your data in an intangible space so that it never gets lost or jumbled. So, for your next costume, why not bring a little sunshine to the party with this Cloud inspired costume:

  • Wear all white
  • Fold a sheet in half and cut out a space in the middle for your head. Cut around the sides of the sheet in wave-like designs, to create a cloud-like resemblance.
  • Write some Cloud facts or benefits on the back to make it clear what you are
  • Top your head with some cotton balls.

Make sure you have all your pieces of technology on hand throughout the night to capture everyone’s responses to your costume cleverness!
