Home security has changed a lot since 2013. Instead of choosing between a CCTV system, a smartphone app or a traditional burglar alarm, most modern devices now combine all three: cameras, sensors and locks that connect to your phone. With so many options, the simplest way to choose is to think about your lifestyle and which risks matter most to you.
The busy traveller
Many burglaries happen when nobody is home. If you travel a lot, look for devices you can monitor and control from anywhere:
- A smart alarm system with door and window sensors, motion detectors and app alerts. Many systems offer optional professional monitoring that calls the police or a security service if the alarm goes off.
- A video doorbell lets you see and talk to visitors and delivery drivers from your phone, so the house doesn’t look empty.
- Smart plugs or lights on a schedule make it look as if someone is home.
The home worker
If you work from home, your house is occupied most of the day — but you can still be caught off guard, especially if you’re absorbed in work, wearing headphones or working unusual hours. Useful options:
- Outdoor security cameras with person detection send a notification to your phone or computer when someone approaches, instead of alerting you for every passing car or cat.
- Door and window sensors can chime when a door opens, even when the alarm is not armed.
- Protect your digital office too: keep your router updated, use strong passwords and lock your computer when you step away.
The party animal
If you love having people over, you may have guests you don’t know well wandering around your home. To keep valuables and private rooms safe:
- A smart lock with a fingerprint reader or keypad on a home office or bedroom door restricts access without handing out keys — and you can create temporary codes for guests or cleaners.
- A fingerprint or keypad safe is the best place for passports, jewellery, cash and spare keys. Choose one that can be bolted to the floor or wall.
- Diversion safes — containers disguised as everyday objects such as books or cans — are a cheap way to hide small valuables, but they’re no substitute for a proper safe.
Tips for any lifestyle
- Secure your accounts: use a strong, unique password and two-factor authentication for your camera, alarm and smart-lock apps, and install firmware updates. A hacked camera is worse than none.
- Check where video is stored: some cameras store footage locally, others in the cloud with a monthly subscription. Compare costs and privacy policies.
- Respect your neighbours’ privacy: in many countries, including the EU and the UK, cameras may only film your own property; recording the street or your neighbour’s garden can be illegal.
- Don’t forget the basics: good locks, lighting and simply closing windows still prevent many burglaries.

I think Home worker is the best because I spends most time at home alone. This is the gadget which is specially designed for persons like me. Those who lives to work at home is the best option to feel safe at home.
But A robber can do anything for his need, so we should not fully depend on this gadget & we have to take own actions during emergency. Don’t think so
